When I am writing this blog, my wife, Maya, is watching the 1208th episode of Indian soap opera Yeh Hai Mohabbatein in the next room. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, This is Love in English, has been airing on Star Plus from Monday to Sunday in the evening for about 4 years. It was first telecasted on 3rd December 2013. You might have been surprised how it lasts all those years. Let me tell you the secret!
‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’, is a love story previously titled ‘Mera Tera Rishta Purana’, is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor of Balaji Telefilms. And the story is based on Manju Kapur’s novel Custody. But, for those who don’t know, after two years of successful broadcasting, the plot has gone far away from the book. After thoroughly watching a number of episodes I’ve learned that the show is sometimes too hard to believe in. However, the drama has received a good response at home and abroad and has got high ratings throughout its run. Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is currently one of the top drama serials in India. It has taken a 7-year leap in April 2016.
The Story is the Magic of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein
Let’s go to Delhi as Yeh Hai Mohabbatein set in Delhi! Don’t worry. I will pay for your air-ticket. The show follows the love story of Ishita and Raman. Ishita is a Tamil and Raman is a Punjabi. Due to circumstances, Raman and Ishita get married. Ishita is barren and, that’s why, she loves Raman’s daughter, Ruhi, very much who lives with her divorced father. On the other side, Raman’s ex-wife, Shagun, lives with her boyfriend Ashok and Aditya, her son with Raman.
The story goes ahead in 849 episodes, and thousands of viewers from different countries keep calm and watch the show. It wouldn’t be possible if Yeh Hai Mohabbatein weren’t an exceptional and top-rating drama serial. When I asked my wife, Maya, why she doesn’t miss a single episode of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, she replied smiling “you won’t understand”! I just kept mum!
Then I spent hours thinking how a show can last for all those years. Do you know what I get? The only reason is its magical story. We all have a family. No matter how we live our lives or how much we suffer in our daily lives, we love our family. In Yeh Hai Mohabbatein we see a reflection and replication of our own lives. When the actor or actress cries, we cry. When they laugh, we laugh. That’s the way Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is getting older along with us. I firmly believe Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is going to survive for a long time you might not even be able to imagine! Let’s wait and see.
Two Magicians Behind the Camera
There is another reason for Yeh Hai Mohabbatein‘s successful broadcasting. That’s the great producers of the show: Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor.
Shobha Kapoor is one of the great Indian television and film producers. She is the MD of Balaji Telefilms. It is a TV serial production house and is run by her daughter Ekta Kapoor. The mother takes care of its overall administrative and production activities. She has produced many soap operas in her successful career. She got married to actor Jeetendra. They have two children, Ekta Kapoor, is a well-known producer, and Tusshar Kapoor, is a famous actor.
Ekta Kapoor has produced plentiful soap opera, television series and movies. Some soap operas she has worked on are Hum Paanch, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, and Kuch Toh Hai Tere Mere Darmiyaan. She has also produced the television series Naagin and Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki and has launched her fashion series with EK Label. She has shown her talent in Bollywood movie production. Begins with Kyo Kii… Main Jhuth Nahin Bolta, Kucch To Hai and Krishna Cottage. In Kyaa Kool Hai Hum, an erotic movie, she starred her brother, Tusshar Kapoor. In 2010 to 2014, she released a number of films including Love Sex aur Dhokha, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, and Shor in the City. She has even co-produced Shootout at Lokhandwala, Mission Istanbul and Liya Hai Toh Chukana Padhega. If you want to count, they will be more than twenty!
Guess when the duo works on a show together, how it would be?!!
Yeah, I’m talking about Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
I bet now you have the answer.
They are the magicians who have been living behind the camera and making Yeh Hai Mohabbatein magical.

Yeh Hai Mohabbatein Took a 7-Year Leap in April 2016
Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is like every other Balaji TV serial, and so it needs to have a year leap. The most talked about leap has finally happened. The drama serial has taken a 7-year leap in April 2016.
After the seven-year leap, the story is turning around. Ishita and Raman are separated and stay in different places. Ishita lives in Australia. On the other hand, Raman resides in Delhi. Even as the charming turns on, the show are keeping its lovers glued to their television sets, the audience will soon be treated with their much-loved couple Ishita and Raman meeting each other for the first time after several years.
What happened next?
Buddy, I’m not gonna answer everything you ask!
Don’t ask me. Go ahead and watch with your own eyes.
What do viewers say about Yeh Hai Mohabbatein?
Tanmoy says, “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is the number one show on Indian Television. I usually don’t like to watch TV serials, but I watch this show daily! The acting and chemistry of Raman and Ishita are just awesome. I hope that this show will remain on the top in future. Best of luck to my favorite show Yeh Hai Mohabbatein!”
Ashna says, “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is one of my favorite shows. I love the roles played by actors and actress. They act naturally. I don’t watch television much, but I really like this show too much. Ruhi, Pihu, Aadi, Sharavan – all the young artists also play their role very well. This show teaches me many things about family life. It promotes the value of love and living together irrespective of caste and position.”
Ramajor Pandey says, “I regularly watch Yeh Hai Mohabbatein serial on Star Plus channel. It is one of the best TV serial ever produced. In this week, this romantic serial is on the top. I like the romance, action and family drama. If you like the family drama and romance, I think Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is best TV serial. I like Raman-Ishita romantic life. They love and fight with each other. In this serial, from two different state people get married for a lovely girl, Ruhi. She is an amazing and beautiful girl.
If you want to watch a real family drama, I would always suggest Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.”
Rekha says, “Yeh Hai Mohabbatein serial is making people fool! The crux of the story is a husband can’t be with one wife! Only the Ekta Kapoor shows dresses beautiful. When this show starts, it was good, but now it is just a brain-killer. My question to Yeh Hai Mohabbatein lover is how step-daughter can get the same face. It’s really too funny.
If this serial was closed, I would be thankful to God. Creating negativity in youngsters’ mind is the main intention of the show! We should raise our voice against Yeh Hai Mohabbatein and stop broadcasting such an illusionary serial.”
Why Do Some Say Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is Bizarre and Too Unreal to Happen in Real Life?
As I have spent hundred hours on Yeh Hai Mohabbatein I noticed that there are some subplots in the show that are so bizarre and unrealistic that will never happen in real life!
No second wife will bring her husband’s ex-wife back into his life or will convince her husband to accept the first wife in his life so happily. After Shagun gets separated from hubby, Ishita brings her back to live with them.
Can you even imagine a woman is running in an airport trying to hit her husband? Well, in a previous episode, when Raman decides to leave India and settle in Singapore, Ishita tries to stop him at the airport and runs after him around the airport to beat him up and make him change his mind. What a fun!
Do you know any couple who starts singing and dancing now and then?! I can’t remember the number of songs and dances between Raman and Ishita in the show. It’s only possible in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein.
Kids are kids. If they behave like an adult, nobody will consider that natural. In our household, children have a limit. And they are not allowed to argue and intervene into an adult’s business. But in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein Ruhi is like a cupid, always giving advice Raman on how to behave with his wife and how to romance with her second mother. What the fuck!
Real-life dentists and businesspeople wouldn’t have much time to sit down and gossip due to their busy schedules. However, in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein Raman and Ishita seem to have countless time their family problem. I surprise when do these guys work? In sleep?!
I can even make the list longer. But it’s better not to spend time on negative things.
Don’t pay heed to bad things. Let them go and enjoy the show.
