Sonar Bangla Express is a remarkable inclusion in Bangladesh Railway to the Dhaka Chittagong route. It is a nonstop train service that is available for the passengers of the two busiest cities of the South Asian developing nation, Bangladesh.

Sonar Bangla Express is the second nonstop train service of the country. The first one nonstop train is Subarna Express which started the journey in 1998. Sonar Bangla Express and Subarna Express are the only two nonstop train services of Bangladesh.

Sonar Bangla Express Train schedule

Sonar Bangla Express is the only nonstop train service in Dhaka to Chittagong route. But, it also takes the least break at Biman Bondor Station in Dhaka airport. As this is the only train for this path, it has to run back on the same day after reaching the destination.

The train has an off day in a week for each starting station. For Dhaka, the off day is Wednesday whether Tuesday is the off day for Chittagong Station. Hence, the passengers can’t get the train from Dhaka on Wednesday. On the other hand, the passengers can’t get the train on Tuesday from Chittagong.

However, according to the Bangladesh railway, Sonar Bangla Express takes only five hours and twenty minutes to reach the destination.

The departure time from Dhaka is 07:00 and the destination time to Chittagong are 12:20 PM. In the meantime, the train takes only a two-minute break at Dhaka airport station. On the contrary, the departure time from Chittagong is 17:00 and the destination time to Chittagong are 10:10 PM.

Sonar Bangla Express train service has 16 cars which have 746 seats available for the passengers. Though the seats are not sufficient to fill in the demands of passengers, most of them are gone to the black market.

One-fourth of the total tickets are available for online ticketing as the government has digitalized the system. On the other hand, it is found that no ticket is available at the station most of the time, the government has to bear a lot of losses for the railway service.

Sonar Bangla Express has all sorts of facilities as a first-class train.  The passengers can get Shovon Chair, Snigdha Chair (AC) and AC Seat. Also, Sonar Bangla train fare is comparatively lower than any other transports for this route.

AC Seat: AC seat is the best accommodation for the passengers who want to enjoy the journey. It is also the best for the trip with family because through it passengers can avoid the crowd. All kinds of facilities like air-conditioned, sleeper bed, carpeted cars with reclining seats are available in this room. The passengers also get a tiffin for which you won’t have to bear extra money.

The fare of AC seat is TK 1100 for each adult person.

Snigdha: Snigdha is the first class compartments of Sonar Bangla Express. It has air-conditioned rooms with carpeted cars and reclining seats. It is the best seat available for a daytime journey. You will be provided a free lunch including the fare. The lunch is also hygienic and delicious.

The fare of Snigdha is TK 1000. You have no other cost as VAT is included with the price.

Shovon: Shovon is the 2^nd class accommodation of Sonar Bangla Express. Though fare is relatively lower than the other accommodations, passengers will get a fine seat for the journey of Dhaka- Chittagong route.

The fare of Shovon 2^nd class seat is TK 600 for per adult person.

All children more than 12 years are treated as an adult person.
