Before I dive into the discussion of flowers of Bangladesh let me ask you a question.

Who doesn’t love flowers?

Every human being who is kind loves flowers and babies.

A flower is the most beautiful thing in the world. Bangladesh is a land of rivers with six different seasons. Every season has different bangles to adorn nature. All six seasons have different fruits, weather, and flowers. And, nothing will match with the next season.

Bangladeshi flowers have a great demand in the market. The people, here in Bangladesh, now cultivate flowers not only for beauty but also to earn foreign currency.

In fact, it is the main source of income in many regions of the country such as Jessore, Narail, Kushtia etc.

Bangladesh, as an ancient land, has many native flowers. The local Bangladeshi flowers are so lucrative, fragrant and beautiful that these can charm you all.

Even a few years ago when the population was not this much, almost every house of Bangladesh had a flower garden.

Bangladesh is the home of flowers. Nature has blessed Bangladesh with so many beautiful flowers. Flowers of Bangladesh is considered as a divine gift to the country from the Almighty.

Here, flowers are cultivated not only for beauty but also for the money. There is a huge demand for Bangladeshi flower, so they’re also cultivated for commercial purposes.

For instances, the rose has many colors such as white, red, black, blue, yellow and pink. But the only red rose is called the queen of flowers. Rose plays a pivotal role in any relations or occasion. It is the flower to signify the relationship. People also offer rose when it is time to celebrate any occasion.

China rose as like as rose is also familiar in Bangladesh. It is one of the common Bangladeshi flowers with many colors. The flower has been used to beautify as well as medicine for many home remedies.

The water lily is a rainy seasonal flower. You can get the flowers in almost every pond, tank, pool, lake, river and other water bodies. It will amuse you with the white color of numerous flowers.

Mainly water lily has two colors: white and pink. Though there are two colors, the only white water lily is the Bangladesh national flower. It was declared after the liberation war of 1971.

The water lily is an aquatic plant. The leaves are round shaped with 5 to 7 feet long sediments to hold the leaves with the roots. The flowers are seen just above the water, but the leaves are on the water.

In many areas of Bangladesh, people like to eat water lily as a vegetable. By the way, Bangladesh national flower, white water lily, symbolizes the natural and normal life leading of the people of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has six seasons with natural beauty. The six seasons is summer, rainy, autumn, late autumn, winter, and spring. Every season has different graces to beautify nature.

Among them, mainly three seasons are found nowadays. The main three seasons are the summer, the rainy season, and the winter.

The Bangladeshi seasonal flowers of every season represent the importance and the elegance of the season. Here is a list of seasonal flowers you can find important for the main three seasons of Bangladesh.

Remember that Bangladeshi seasonal flowers are grown in the definite season naturally, but some of them can also be grown artificially in the other seasons.

Flowers of Summer in Bangladesh

Summer is the first season of Bangladesh. It has hot weather with lots of natural storms and other calamities. There is also a lack of water for the hot weather. But, the trees are full of flowers to greet the Bengali New Year. Here is a list of flowers of summer in Bangladesh:

Krishnachura

Krishnachura is one of the most colorful flowers of the summer season. The scientific name of the plant is Delonix regia from the family of Fabaceae. People like the color of the flowers as it is red. It looks nice when the tree is full of colorful red flowers.

Poets write poems based on the flower, Krishna Chura. In addition, Dhaka Krishnachura Blossoms Festival is also held to celebrate the blossoms of the flowers. The occasion is celebrated in the first week of every May of the Year.

Palash or Shimul

The scientific name of the beautiful flower Palash is Butea monosperma. It is B also from the family Fabaceae with different names such as Flame of the Forest, Agni, Fire of the God and Bastard Teak.

It is a medium-sized tree with lots of flowers. The flowers are in the red of color. The color of the flower is also used for the Holi celebration. But the most important use of the flower is that it is used as a dye to dye the fabric.

Aparajita

Too many names of the flowers show the beauty and importance of the flower. Also, the flower is popular as the different name in different countries. For example, the Asian pigeon wings are also known as Butterfly pea, mussel-shell climber, and blue pea vine. It is the flower family Fabaceae. The flower is of blue-colored with white shade in the bottom.

The rainy season is the most enriched season in Bangladesh. There is a lot of rain in this season for the monsoon of the Bay of Bengal. Furthermore, many flowers are bloomed on the season. Here, you can get the rainy season flowers list.

Kadam

The symbol of the rainy season is the Kadam. It is a flower with no fragrance but a nice look. The Scientific name of the flower is Neolamarckia cadamba. It is from the family Rubiaceae with many other varieties. The other varieties are Giri Kadam and Guli Kadam.

However, it is an indigenous flower of Bangladesh which you can find the flower anywhere rarely except India. Kadam has a great effect on the mind of the people. Many poems are written based on the Kadam. Also, poets get the inspiration to write poetry by sitting under the tree.

Beli or Bela

Beli or Bela is a white colored tiny flower with the mind-blowing fragrance. The flower is popularly known as Jasmine in other countries. The Scientific name of the flower is Jasminum sambac. It is a small shrub widely cultivated for the fragrant of the flowers.

Dolan Chapa

It is one of the favorite rainy season flowers to the poets and artists, the scientific name of the white color flower is Hedychium coronarium and the flower belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. It is also known as Butterfly Ginger Lily and White Ginger Lily.  The flower is bloomed as a cluster with a beautiful fragrance. Sometimes it is used as the alternative of Jasmine to produce perfume.

Winter is called the king of all other seasons. At that time, nature remains gloomy because of cold. You can find lots of fresh vegetable along with beautiful flowers. So, you can get winter season flowers name list from below:

Marigold flower

Hundreds of marigold bloom in the winter season. You can grow the marigold not only in the garden but also in the rooftop or any other pot. People use the flower to offer the homage for the occasions as well as to make the wreath.

The leaves of the herbs are also used as the medicine for any wound or injury. There is a lot of variety of flower. But all the herbs are the same though the flowers are different. Marigold belongs to the family Asteraceae with almost 50 different species.

Sunflower

Though sunflower is cultivated as the source of oil worldwide, it is still a beauty in Bangladesh. It is a winter season flower which blooms from December till March. Your garden looks more beautiful with the colorful sunflower that you can’t imagine.

The scientific name of sunflower is Helianthus annuus that belongs to the Asteraceae family. Though there are lots of species, Helianthus is the most common and popular that you can find almost everywhere.

Dahlia

Though dahlia is not a native flower of Bangladesh, it is now one of the most popular among winter season flowers. The mixed color of the flower can enhance your mind with the beauty of joy. The beauty of the garden will be enhanced a lot for thousands of dahlia flower.

The dahlia is a Mexico native flower; it is the different species we have in our country. The flower belongs to the Asteraceae family with 42 different species. In Bangladesh, Dahlia pinnata is the popular one to cultivate.

    We used to play with Pithkila Gota, as called in Bikrampur, during our childhood days. I don’t know what it is called in proper Bangla. They are slightly flat round seeds that grow on trees like Hijol in Rainy season. Can u pl tell what actually it is and by the by if you have any image, pl let me know. Thanks.
